Disney has announced that it will introduce designated mask-free “relaxation zones” where guests can briefly remove their face coverings. These areas aim to give visitors a safe chance to catch their breath while still maintaining the park’s overall health measures.

This comes as Disney requires all guests aged 3 and older to wear face masks throughout the resort. The new relaxation zones respond to the practical need for brief, monitored breaks from face coverings—especially during hot, humid days.
Wearing a mask in crowded places is an important safety measure, and many guests support the policy. At the same time, Florida’s summer heat can make extended mask use uncomfortable, so these designated zones should help guests manage brief relief in a controlled setting.

For those who are sensitive to heat, planning a visit during cooler months may be a better option. In any case, the relaxation zones offer an additional layer of comfort for visitors who choose to attend while masks are required.
Details on the number and location of relaxation zones have not been released. Walt Disney World Senior Vice President of Operations Jim MacPhee has confirmed they will exist, but the parks have not yet published exact protocols or capacity limits for these areas.
As the parks prepare to reopen in July, Disney has implemented a series of measures intended to protect both guests and cast members. Visiting Disney is a choice, and guests who go must follow the established rules designed to reduce risk and support public health.
Disney plans to reopen Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom on July 11, followed by EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios on July 15. With reopening comes a range of adjustments similar to those introduced at Shanghai Disneyland earlier in the year.
To enter a park, both a park reservation and valid admission for the same park on the same date will be required. Key guidelines announced by Disney include:
To enter a park, both a park reservation and valid admission for the same park on the same date is required
– Face coverings are required for all Guests (ages 2 and up) and Cast Members; temperature screenings are required in some locations
– Some experiences—including theme parks—may be modified or unavailable to allow for physical distancing and limited contact
– Helpful technology and the My Disney Experience app will help you make the most of the magic

Dining reservations for the near term have been canceled as the resort operates at reduced capacity to support physical distancing. FastPass and similar virtual queue services are temporarily suspended while Disney adjusts operations to limit crowds and contact.
Large gatherings and close-contact experiences—such as parades, fireworks, and character meet-and-greets—will be suspended for the foreseeable future to minimize crowding and maintain safe distances between groups.
Although some familiar elements will be modified or temporarily unavailable, Disney has said it will continue to focus on delivering memorable experiences. Guests can expect adjustments, but the resort aims to preserve the spirit of magic and hospitality while prioritizing health and safety.
With careful planning and new safety protocols—including the introduction of relaxation zones—Disney seeks to balance guest comfort and public health as parks reopen. Visitors should review current guidelines before their visit and plan accordingly to ensure a safe, enjoyable experience.
