Is it just me, or does the holiday season feel overwhelmingly stressful?

By December 1st do you look at your calendar and feel the first stirrings of panic? Burning your gluten-free cookies because you’ve been juggling too many tasks, then eating the whole tray because they comfort you when you “just can’t even”? Same here.
This month, instead of more Thanksgiving leftover ideas or another round of cookie recipes, I wanted to share practical ways to truly unwind. For me, an ideal relaxation ritual starts with a hot bath, aromatic salts, and a lavender diffuser on full. When I want to elevate the experience into genuine self-care rather than survival mode, I put on a face mask and let myself sink into the moment.

If you read The Wellness Project, you know that switching to natural beauty products was also about breaking my cycle of being a product junkie. I’ve largely kept that promise: I use only a few organic skincare and natural makeup items. Where I’ve allowed myself to experiment, though, is with natural face masks. I’ve tried many, and I’m sharing favorites here so you can find the right ones for acne, dry skin, or just a boundary-setting evening of calm.
Below are my favorite organic face mask products—many recommended by readers—along with a curated list of easy DIY masks you can make from pantry ingredients. Don’t feel pressured to buy everything at once; these masks have accompanied me through hundreds of baths, and I usually keep only one or two at hand.
If you’re serious about simplifying your routine, try the DIY recipes. They’re quick to mix and offer the pleasure of making something nourishing from simple ingredients. If even that feels like too much, you’ll find reliable pre-mixed masks for a no-fuss at-home facial.
Read on for practical homemade face mask recipes and my favorite natural mask brands to help you relax and care for your skin this season.
With health and indulgence,
Phoebe

Blackberry Basil Healing Mask
Lily Diamond uses herbs, fruits and flowers beautifully in skincare. In this healing mask, basil soothes inflammation, honey brings antibacterial and anti-aging benefits, and blackberries add gentle exfoliation through natural fruit acids. It’s a calming, restorative blend ideal after a long day.
Matcha Green Tea Mask
Matcha is packed with antioxidants that reduce inflammation and help even skin tone. Its antioxidant properties can support clearer skin and improved elasticity, making it a strong ingredient for a calming, brightening mask.
Honey Turmeric Face Mask
Turmeric is highly anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antiseptic, which makes it excellent for DIY masks. When combined with honey or a gentle oil, turmeric helps brighten and calm skin. Use care with towels, as turmeric can stain fabrics.
Apple Cider Oatmeal Mask
This cozy, fall-ready mask blends apple cider vinegar and oats. Apple cider vinegar helps rebalance skin pH and protect against bacteria and irritation, while oatmeal soothes and gently exfoliates sensitive skin.
Refreshing Mint and Aloe Face Mask
Great for warmer months or sun-exposed skin, this mask cools and hydrates. Mint calms and refreshes while aloe soothes and promotes gentle healing—perfect as a weekly hydrating treatment or after mild sun exposure.
Charcoal Mask for Blackheads and Breakouts
A DIY charcoal mask offers a natural way to draw impurities and excess oil from pores. Activated charcoal is prized for detoxifying properties and can help with breakouts when used carefully in a simple mask formula.
