This easy recipe highlights humble bananas and rolled oats to create a tasty, wholesome cookie. They work well as a grab-and-go breakfast or an everyday snack.

These treats are softer and more bar-like than a traditional crispy-edge cookie — think cakey oatmeal snack cookies. They’re especially kid-friendly, and if you prefer chocolate you can easily swap raisins for chocolate chips in your own variation.

Ingredients

  • Old fashioned oats: Use rolled oats (not steel-cut or instant). I haven’t tested quick oats for this recipe.
  • Almond flour: Adds a tender texture and a subtle nutty flavor. Almond flour’s natural fats help the cookies hold together; regular all-purpose flour won’t perform the same here.
  • Bananas: Very ripe is best. Two medium overripe bananas provide natural sweetness, so these cookies are not as sweet as dessert cookies but are still satisfying.
  • Cinnamon: Classic warming spice for oatmeal raisin cookies.
  • Baking soda: A small amount helps the cookies rise slightly and keeps them light.
  • Salt: Enhances the overall flavor and balances sweetness.
  • Raisins: Chewy, naturally sweet bites that pair beautifully with cinnamon.

The combination of cinnamon and raisins gives these cookies a comforting, familiar flavor. They actually mellow and taste even better after resting overnight.

Once a baby is able to safely eat raisins, these also make a convenient option for baby-led weaning or a family-friendly snack.

How to store

Store baked cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days. After that, keep leftovers refrigerated. The flavors develop after a day, and many people prefer them on day two.

You can freeze the cookies for up to three months; thaw at room temperature before serving.

Description

A simple, wholesome cookie made with ripe banana and rolled oats. With only seven ingredients and no added sugar or oil, these soft, cakey cookies are a healthy snack option for all ages. They’re quick to make and freeze well.

Ingredients

  • 2 large overripe bananas
  • 1 ½ cups old fashioned oats (certified gluten free if needed)
  • 1 cup almond flour
  • 1 ½ tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ¼ tsp fine sea salt
  • ½ cup raisins

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. In a medium bowl, mash the bananas until smooth. Add the oats, almond flour, cinnamon, baking soda and salt, then stir until combined. Fold in the raisins.
  3. Form the dough into 16 even balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet. Gently flatten each ball with your palm — they won’t spread much while baking.
  4. Bake for about 20 minutes, until set. Allow to cool; the cookies often taste best the next day as the flavors develop.

Notes

Adapted from a similar breakfast cookie recipe. For storage: keep cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days; move any remaining cookies to the refrigerator after that. To freeze, place in a sealed container for up to three months.
